At Cartes 2006 from 7-9. November 2006, stand 3E059, KBA-Metronic AG, a leading supplier of printing and marking solutions, is presenting two all-rounders for card production: the intelligent Genius 52UV sheetfed offset press and the Universys modular personalization system.

The Genius 52UV shines with perfect offset printing quality. Thanks to its compact design with innovative keyless inking technology it can easily be operated by a single person. A register-true job change is possible within seven minutes, with a minimum of start-up wastage. Small and medium-sized printshops can thus use the Genius 52UV optimally and efficiently. The excellent printed image is produced by means of four printing units arranged in a satellite formation; the optional fifth printing unit can be used for special colors. Finally, a separate unit can be used to apply print varnish. The varnish finishes the printed surface and protects against wear.

In demand for plastic and lenticular printers – small-format Genius 52UV with UV features. (1)

The Genius 52UV prints plastics and other materials with a thickness of 0.1 to 0.8 mm. Thanks to its intelligent keyless printing technology, difficult printing substrates such as lenticular sheets can also be printed perfectly. Quick-drying UV-hardening inks allow a high card throughput and immediate finishing. Cards with a particularly creative and sophisticated look can thus also be produced economically. All in all, the Genius 52UV is an all-rounder with huge innovative potential for future printing requirements in the card market.

The Genius 52UV prints various materials such as films and hard foils as well as cardboard and paper with thicknesses of between 0.1 and 0.8 mm. (2)

The Universys is a modular “all-in-one” personalization system that can be manufactured for specific practical requirements. It is used worldwide to personalize and individualize plastic and paper cards such as scratch-off cards, club cards, customer cards, bonus system cards etc. Various modules are available for user-specific configuration: input module, rotation module for landscape and portrait formats, inkjet printer incl. code camera, hot stamping module (including rotary module for high throughput), outfeed module (optional with inspection camera for scratch-off fields), labeling module, magnetic stripe encoder and magnetic stripe reader.

Intricate graphics such as logos and barcodes with a resolution of 300 dpi can be applied using the drop-on-demand printer. (3)

For the printing module the user can choose either a continuous inkjet printer (alphaJET C) or a drop-on-demand printer. While the alphaJET C is ideal for applying serial numbers, for example, which are then fitted with a scratch-off field, the DoD method is particularly suited to intricate graphics such as logos and barcodes. In the DoD technology, UV ink is only applied on request. The result is a pinpoint sharp image with a resolution of 300 dpi. KBA-Metronic will present a configuration with a DoD printer and UV dryer for the first time at Cartes.

Confidential information on the cards is protected against prying eyes by the security covering system. (4)

Flexible applications according to requirement: landscape or portrait printing on single cards. Up to 14,000 cards/h can be produced with the rotary hot stamping module.(5)
