“Champions in Print” geared up to the World Cup
KBA-Italia at Grafitalia 2006in Milan

At Grafitalia 2006, to be held at the new exhibition centre Fiera Milano in Rho from 9th to 13th May, Koenig & Bauer (KBA) will be unpacking some of its very latest developments for small-, half- and medium-format sheetfed offset, including corresponding integrated workflows. With everyone geared up to the forthcoming World Cup, the “Champions in Print” banner which proved both fitting and successful at the recent IPEX fair in Birmingham will be rolled out again over the 700 m² KBA-Italia stand in Hall 13 (Stand No. D49/D55).

Hybrid-Rapida 105 für die Luxus-Veredelung

Raised on a plinth for packaging printing, and with a special gallery design, the Rapida 105 is to be presented as a six-colour model with extensive equipment for inline finishing (1)

The centrepiece of the presentation is a six-colour Rapida 105 equipped for inline hybrid finishing. Capable of printing speeds up to 18,000 sheets/hr, this highly automated medium-format press series is already widely popular throughout Italy in the most diverse configurations. The Grafitalia press has been configured for packaging printing and is thus raised on a 450 mm plinth. Its interesting features include, among many others, a non-stop feeder with KBA's SensoricInfeedSystem (sidelay-free infeed), FAPC fully automatic plate changing, inking unit temperature control, a non-stop delivery with ACS (Air Cleaning System), ACR video register, DensiTronic S colour measurement and control and the LogoTronic production management system. The broad spectrum of finishing possibilities, and the lightning-fast changeovers between the different finishing options, are to be demonstrated with live production of motor-racing and football posters, stickers and other souvenirs for the World Cup fans on the stand.

Robuste Performa 74 im B2-Format

The Performa 74 will be on show for the first time in Italy. Thanks to its excellent price/performance ratio, KBA sees good opportunities for this robust and user-friendly B2 press on the important Italian market (2)

The printers on the B2-format KBA Performa 74 press will also be focussed on football images, including postcards and reproductions of paintings by Horst Kordes. The artist himself will be on the KBA stand to sign the prints and to present further original works. Grafitalia is the first time that the Performa 74 is to be shown at a trade exhibition in Italy. The five-colour model to be seen in Milan stands out with an attractive price/performance ratio and user-oriented automation solutions. It is equipped with semi-automatic plate changing, remote register correction and automatic washing systems for the blankets and ink rollers. The GrafiControl console with optional integration into a digital workflow, and non-stop facilities at the feeder and delivery are further details which contribute to the ease and convenience of operation.

The Genius 52UV at Grafitalia will be shown printing on lenticular films and other high-quality plastic substrates, and features also an alphaJET C inkjet system for inline personalisation (3)

A Genius 52 UV press from KBA-Metronic AG, in a configuration with coating unit and extended delivery in the B3 format 36 x 52 cm, completes the exhibition line-up. Designed to cater for especially high-quality waterless offset print in the growing short-run market, this press has also attracted the attention of Italian printers with fast makereadies and an absolute minimum of start-up waste. The UV version, with an optional coating unit and extended deliveries in various lengths to suit different applications, is the press of choice not only for papers from 0.1 mm thickness, but above all also for plastics, lenticular film and board up to 0.8 mm. Grafitalia visitors will be able to see the Genius 52UV printing on 220μ PVC and on the increasingly popular lenticular films. The delivery of the exhibition press is also equipped with the freely programmable alphaJET C system from KBA-Metronic, for the variable personalisation of individual sheets on a continuous inkjet basis.

Italy – a core market for KBA

Over the past years, KBA has played a leading role on the Italian print market – one of the most important markets in Europe – not least with its countless installations of sheetfed presses for medium , large- and superlarge-format offset. Numerous presses have also been ordered for commercial web and newspaper offset applications, among them several large-scale installations. The generous presentations of the KBA group at the regional Grafitalia fair are yet another reflection of this pleasing development.
