interpack 2005 in Düsseldorf
KBA-Metronic draws up a positive balance

interpack 2005 recently closed its doors in Düsseldorf. With a total of 176,000 visitors from 106 countries, and with 2,668 exhibitors, it was - according to the organisers - the biggest interpack ever.

Still a little unfamiliar, but certainly stylish – KBA-Metronic AG exchanged its formerly green outfit to appear in its new blue KBA look for the first time at interpack 2005 (1)

“Not only the numbers of trade visitors, but also the international atmosphere and above all the readiness of customers to invest were remarkable. More than two thirds of the visitors were managers with decision-making responsibilities. interpack 2005 was again able to strengthen its leading role as the world's prime platform for the packaging branch,” summed up Wilhelm Niedergöker, managing director of the exhibition corporation Messe Düsseldorf GmbH.

The managers at KBA-Metronic AG have similarly been able to declare interpack 2005 a full success, after attracting considerable attention to their own product marking solutions. Two thirds of the customer contacts recorded were new prospects, and special mention must be made of the interest shown by global players from the most varied branches of industry, e.g. packaging, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food and drinks, media and communication, cables and machine manufacturers, all of which permits the company to look forward to lively post-fair business.

This was for Metronic the first trade fair appearance in the new KBA colours and with a new logo. Trade visitors to the stand were treated to economical solutions for inkjet printing with the alphaJET C and alphaJET E systems, the laser marking family F-1010 plus, F-1030 plus and F-1010 SP and a Metronic MB01hot-stamping machine.

Technology leader for economical inkjet printers

With the two alphaJET systems, KBA-Metronic demonstrated that inkjet marking can indeed be an economical technology. Visitors were especially impressed by the low consumption data of the alphaJET C compared to competitor systems and hereby once more affirmed the KBA subsidiary's role as technology leader. Consumption costs can be reduced to around one third – in view of the large production volumes encountered in the packaging industry a convincing argument in favour of technology “Made in Germany”.

Strong focus on laser technologies

Equally in the limelight was the range of laser marking systems from KBA-Metronic AG. When it comes to “low-consumption marking”, the laser systems are naturally uncontested, since they require no media whatsoever. With solutions in various performance categories, Metronic offers matched systems to cater for every individual requirement. A further core competence is to be seen in customer-specific integration of the laser equipment.

One particular visitor magnet was a Motoman robot, which was linked into a system integrator from Geku. Visitors were able to choose an image and a name on a laptop, and then saw these coded onto a white-coated tin by removing the colour with a CO2 laser (F-1030). Subsequently, a marking was applied with an alphaJET C using MEK black ink, and the KBA-Metronic logo was added with a UV-sensitive ink. Diverse possibilities for combinations of the UDA 150-S transport system and the most varied marking solutions for offline coding on folding cartons and blister packs were also presented.
