Easibind successfully uses the advantages of the Genius 52UV from KBA-Metronic
As a highly efficient full-service company with around 100 associates and an annual turnover of approximately £6.0 million, Easibind offers its customers extensive expertise in the pre-press stage, printing and finishing.

The Derbyshire-based (UK) company was founded in 1977 and is regarded as a leading specialist provider for printing and finishing plastic materials.

The main products are ring binders, high-quality brochures, calendars, packagings, displays, store cards, tabletop displays, wobblers, display boards, window decorations, mouse pads and binders. These segments in particular require individual solutions and the highest standards of printing quality.

Easibind therefore uses the high-performance Genius 52UV from KBA-Metronic for its printing; it allows cost-effective printing with flexibility and a brilliant printing quality. A Genius 52UV press with 5 printing units, an integrated coating module and a customized delivery unit was installed.

A special feature of the Genius 52UV: substrates up to 0.8 mm thick

As a plastics-processing plant, Easibind has specialized in printing a wide range of non-absorbing substrates such as PP, ABS, polypaper, lenticular, coated paper and carton. The Genius 52UV can achieve up to 8,000 sheets per hour in the 36 x 52 cm format, depending on the substrate. This opens up a wide range of opportunities for this innovative company.

Due to the limited curvature of the feed drum and impression cylinder, substrates with a thickness of 0.1 to 0.8 mm can also be transported easily. This is adequate for most plastic and compound films or metal-coated materials, as well as plastics, lenticular, paper and carton.

Minimal set-up time and waste

Runs are often very small in the small-format sector, making low waste rates and quick set-up times particularly important. Harry Skidmore, CEO of the company, praised the quick set-up times of the Genius 52UV, with which a job change can be performed for all five colors within seven minutes: “The Genius 52UV is fitted with a large impression cylinder around which the five printing units are arranged in a compact and easily accessible satellite formation.

As the Genius 52UV does not have any ink keys, but a keyless inking unit , the inking is absolutely consistent. Even difficult print subjects such as lenticular can therefore be printed without ghosting. The register system allows register-true plate clamping during automatic plate changes. The start-up waste is therefore negligible: The tenth sheet is already ‘ready for sale’”.

Maximum color brilliance thanks to UV inks and final coating of print

The Genius 52UV provides cost-effective waterless sheetfed offset printing with UV-curing inks. Harry Skidmore says: “The UV technology offers the highest level of quality, process reliability and is economical.”

The Genius 52UV installed in Derbyshire is fitted with an integrated coating unit. The coating module has a UV intermediate dryer which cures the ink film in fractions of a second immediately before the coating is applied. Finishing with UV varnishes produces a high gloss effect combined with good rub-resistance. The coating film, which can be applied either over the full area or a part thereof, is cured in the printing press by the UV radiation and the sheet can be finished immediately. In response to customer demands, the delivery capacity has been increased, thus increasing the availability.
