Premiere for KBA-Metronic`s Genius 52UV at Cards Asia 2009: Waterless UV Offset Press for card manufacturing
Stevic is one of the most successful providers of security printing machines and equipment in Southeast Asia with a myriad range of equipment installed in almost every well-known security printing company in that region. After many successful installations of Genius 52 UV, the machine will now be shown the very first time on this exhibition. Take the chance and get convinced, how efficient and easy it is, to print all kind of plastic substrates, such as PVC, PC, ABS, PC and others up to a thickness of 0.8 mm.
With each 36 x 52 cm sheet the Genius 52UV is able to print up to 24 single cards in the ISO Standard format, which are then punched out in a second process step. It is theoretically possible to have 192,000 ISO Standard single cards printed in an hour at maximum print capacity (8000 sheets/hr). Genius 52UV allows to fulfill orders with only a few adjustment sheets. Even better quality than with digital printing at quite low operating and production costs can be achieved. Also with small orders the machine is very flexible and gets „inked up“ quickly and absolutely color firm. Customers achieve a consistent printing quality form the beginning of their print runs to the last sheet.
The five printing units make a four colour print and spotcolor or alternatively with varnish. The printer can produce, based on the patented short-ink printing unit and due to the short preparation time and the low start-up waste, photo realistic production runs of high quality. Every sheet is printed register-true in one gripper closure without hand over.
Even in the case of a subsequent reprinting there are no variations in color. The reason for it is the waterless Anilox short inking unit that consists of only four evenly sized rollers. The temperature control of the Anilox screen roller and the plate cylinder ensures a consistent ink control. As opposed to the conventional offset printing it does neither require water nor isopropyl alcohol (IPA) nor powder and works without ink zones. This has a positive effect on the environment. Another advantage is the small amount of spoilage since there is no color / water balance required as in conventional offset printing. Because the screen roller, inking roller, plate cylinder and rubber blanket cylinder all have identical diameters, there is no ghosting. The integrated UV dryers ensure an immediate hardening of the colors after the printing and make it possible for to punch or laminate. Adjusting of inking rollers is no longer required. The automatic plate infeed, the setting of longitudinal and circumferential register from the operating console permits an operator to do a job change in approximately seven minutes.
The machine exhibited at SUNTEC Singapore is a 5 colour version. It needs only a small footprint of approx.12 sqm and is therefore ideal for all printers who don`t have plenty of space at their plant. A varnishing unit with normal or extended delivery unit and a completely elevated machine for more printing capacity in one stack is optional available for this unique and cost effective UV offset press.
