Varnishing unit and extended delivery unit:

Siller Print Factory has once again invested in a Genius 52UV

Recently, the Siller GmbH & Co KG in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany has been printing its multifaceted and in parts very high-quality advertising materials on a Genius 52UV with a varnishing unit, an extended delivery unit and a Corona unit. This new Genius 52UV from KBA-Metronic allows the printing specialists for plastic substrates to increase their productivity considerably. The Siller Print Factory, as the print shop also calls itself, already has many years of experience with different non-absorbent printable semi-finished products made of plastic and paper. The company, which was founded in 1980, has been operating a Genius 52UV for several years. The new machine with varnishing unit strongly complements the portfolio and helps the company to distinguish itself and to further specialize in a highly competitive market for promotional literature. According to the production manager Mr. Kjartan Steindórsson, the Genius 52UV “is the ideal printing machine” for meeting his requirements.

Coating module with delivery unit extension provides more highlights

The coating module with its extended delivery unit will help the Siller Print Factory to finish the high-quality advertising material in a single run and to provide additional value for the customer. The extended delivery unit is very important for the degree of gloss of the surface of the print substrate, especially when processing high-gloss UV-varnish. The varnish will show more highlights, the more time it has available to spread on the substrate surface. The spectrum ranges from 0 highlights for “absolutely matt”, to 100 highlights “absolutely glossy”. Among the different varnishes, the UV varnish usually achieves the most highlights. The inline method can achieve 85 to 90 highlights. Higher values can only be achieved when using a UV-brilliant varnish in combination with the offline method. Since a varnishing unit can process higher coat thicknesses than an inking unit, it is also suitable for printing a rich white, for example, on the backside of a transparent foil.
Production manager Kjartan Steindórssonis is excited about the new achievements: “We have now available important options to increase our production and quality of offset printing. This allows us to complete our print jobs more efficiently and to visibly increase the quality for our demanding customers. The 3.30 m long sheet delivery unit extension allows for a finish that is quite fantastic for this small-format Genius 52UV offset printing machine.”

Reliable waterless KBA-Metronic anilox short inking unit

The economic strengths of the GENIUS 52 UV lie in small and medium-size print runs. Its distinct advantage is the little setup time required until the first “good sheet” can be produced. It is inked up more quickly than other machines in this format class. This is especially beneficial in the case of frequent order changes. A key characteristic of the GENIUS 52UV is the compact V-shaped arrangement of its five anilox short inking units around a central counter pressure cylinder of fourfold size. Each sheet is printed true to register without gripper transfers. This makes it impossible for register differences to occur. Anilox inking roller, plate inker, plate cylinder and blanket cylinder all have exactly the same diameter, thus ensuring a print free of ghosting. The ink control with the anilox roller and collecting blade quickly enables an optimum inking for difficult forms. A thin coat of ink is transferred to the inking roller with each rotation of the ceramic-coated anilox roller. A doctor blade removes surplus ink in order to obtain a constant final print. The plate cylinder and anilox roller are temperature-controlled in order to stabilize the printing process.
The Genius 52UV prints only those UV inks that have been hardened with UV dryers prior to the processing in the varnishing unit. The varnish is thus applied to already hardened inks. The final drying and hardening takes place after the varnishing. The sheets are immediately dry and can be directly forwarded to the next process. Risks such as depositing and blocking into stacks are thus avoided as is the case with conventional offset printing. Dusting powder can be omitted altogether.
