KBA-France thrills the audience with Genius 52UV
From 9 to 12 June, KBA-France, along with KBA-Metronic from Germany, introduced visitors at the Porte de Versailles exhibition site in Paris to the unrivalled star of small-format B3-offset printing machines, the Genius 52UV. In numerous live demonstrations, the waterless UV printing press was able to show what it could do. Whether printing on different types of plastics or on papers with non-absorbent surfaces - the machine showed how it could be used in new and often high-margin, niche markets. With a job changeover time of just seven minutes before the production of the first "good sheet", the Genius 52UV once again showed the interested specialists that printing on challenging materials need not be an arduous task.
The independent consultancy KBA Complete was also represented at Graphitec. In the JDF Theater organized by the exhibition company, CEO Lode Vlayen informed visitors about the options of process optimisation and automation using a modern management information system (MIS). KBA Complete favours the Hiflex MIS, developed specifically for the print and media industry, which can be used for digital and analog printing in both sheet and web offset processes.
Despite the continuing economic challenges, the number of visitors to the fair was satisfactory on most days. The Late Night Show in particular, which went on to 9 p.m. on the third day of the event, brought many people to the KBA stand. "Besides good contacts with people from some French-oriented regions, we especially would have liked even more potential customers from France itself for Genius 52UV," said KBA-Metronic's Area Sales Manager Hichem Torkhani, who added: "We showed interested parties in France how quickly a complete job changeover can be performed with the Genius 52UV. With the more expensive substrates especially, regardless of whether plastic or paper, one wants to produce as little waste as possible for cost reasons. The Genius 52UV produces a saleable result after just ten sheets, so making high spoilage rates a thing of the past."
Short setup times, the absence of isopropanol, water and dusting powder, the immediate hardening of the inks, the large variety of printable materials and a sharp image are all crucial for the user. The Genius 52UV's five Anilox inking units each comprise just four equally-sized rollers or cylinders, which are grouped around a large impression cylinder of fourfold size. A screen roller ensures a smooth ink transport on the substrate. The waterless printing plates take up only as much ink as the subject needs. There are no ink keys to under or over-ink the image. No drop of water "dilutes" the ink. Thanks to the temperature regulation of the Anilox screen roller and the plate cylinder, the Genius 52UV prints absolutely constantly sheet after sheet. The photo-realistic image reproduction is achieved with very fine screens of up to 120L/cm; frequency-modulated screens can also be printed. With one grab of the gripper, the sheets are led through the five printing units of the compact machine with precision registration. In its standard version, it has a footprint of only 12m², allowing it to be installed in any print shop or digital printing studio.
Anyone who wants an integrated varnishing unit has the choice of varying the gloss levels of high-gloss varnishes by altering the courses of the Genius 52UV's delivery segment. Those who often print large runs can opt for a higher machine performance and so ensure even more productivity. A Corona unit, with which the surface tension of a variety of plastics can be improved to provide ideal adhesion for UV inks, can also be supplied on request. The Genius 52UV prints only with UV inks. Powerful UV driers ensure that the inks harden immediately. This, in turn, allows the printed substrates to be processed again very quickly. Urgent printing jobs, which can always arise at any printing plant, can be carried out at any time.
